Swoop Troupe Theatre Co. Announces Dates for “The Sound of Music” 
Who: The University of North Florida’s Swoop Troupe Theatre Co. 
What: The University of North Florida’s Swoop Troupe Theatre Co. (formerly the UNF Musical Theatre Club) has announced the dates for its production of  Rodger and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music.
The Sound of Music will be the team’s third production, but the first since they rebranded as Swoop Troupe Theatre Co. in July of 2019. The Sound of Music will open on January 24 at 7 p.m. at the UNF Andrew A. Robinson Theater. Two more shows will follow January 25 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. at the UNF Andrew A. Robinson Theater. The 2 p.m. matinee on January 25 is a special Military Family and Friends show, where Military personnel are invited to come in or out of uniform and enjoy the show with their friends and family. After the show, they will be recognized for their service to the country. The show is free and open to all members of UNF and the larger Jacksonville community. Tickets will be given out at the doors of the show.

Why: The University of North Florida is a large university with a diverse population of student-run activities. After the dissolving of the theatre program in 2017, Swoop Troupe (formerly UNF Musical Theatre Club) was founded to give theatre lovers a place on campus. The Swoop Troupe is a constantly growing group of theatre loving students who come to UNF for the academics but miss the outlet of musical theatre they might have been a part of in grade school. Swoop Troupe Theatre Co. goals are to bring theatre back to UNF for students, faculty, and the community alike.

The Sound of Music will be Swoop Troupe Theatre Co.’s, formerly the UNF Musical Theatre Club, third production at the university. After producing Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 in 2018, the group has been working to put on steadily growing musicals ever since. Their last production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods had a full house (in a theater that seats 700) for 2 of the 3 performances. The Sound of Music will be their first production since rebranding from the UNF Musical Theatre Club to the Swoop Troupe Theatre Co.

Swoop Troupe Theatre Co. and The Sound of Music Facts:
• The UNF Musical Theatre Club was started in 2016 by then-Freshman Madeline Aqunio and Dominik Taitji
• The club’s put on their first production of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 in 2017
• The show has 1 full sold-out showing and 2 partial sold-out shows
• In 2018, the club put on its second production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods
• The show had 2 out of 3 sold-out shows with crowds of almost 700 at each show
• In July of 2019, the club decided to rebrand from the UNF Musical Theatre Club to the UNF Swoop Troupe Theatre Co.
• The Swoop Troupe Production team has spent the summer deciding on the best musical to follow the success of Into The Woods
• The team has announced, as of Monday, August 12, that their 2019/2020 production will be Rodger and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music
• Auditions for cast will take place on Sept. 7 and 8 for singing, non-singing, dancing, and reading roles

• The Sound of Music opened on Broadway in 1959
• The movie adaption of The Sound of Music, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, came out in 1965 and is still considered the most popular movie musical of all time
• The Sound of Music was the final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein
• The musical tells the story of nun-turned-governess Maria who comes to watch over the 7 Von Trapp children. Growing closer to the children and eventually their father, the widowed Baron Von Trapp, Maria finds a family within them. After Maria and the Baron wed, they must flee from Austria to Switzerland as the second world war begins
• The production will take place on January 24 and 25, 2020. Exact times to be announced.

UNF Swoop Troupe Productions Announces “The Sound of Music” 
As Its 2019/2020 Production
JACKSONVILLE, Fla., August 12, 2019--The University of North Florida’s Swoop Troupe Productions has announced Rodger and Hammerstein’s The Sound of Music as their 2019/2020 production.
Swoop Troupe Productions began at UNF in 2016 as the UNF Musical Theatre Club. In July of 2019, the club announced that it would henceforth be known as the Swoop Troupe and introduced Swoop Troupe Productions--the musical and production side of their operation.
 The club first put on Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5 in 2018 and have been working to put on bigger and better musicals ever since. Their last production of Stephen Sondheim’s Into The Woods sold out 2 of the 3 performances to a crowd of 700-people. The Sound of Music will be their first production since rebranding from the UNF Musical Theatre Club to the Swoop Troupe Productions.
Auditions for cast and crew positions will begin in Sept. Acting auditions will take place on Saturday, Sept. 7 and Sunday, Sept. 8.
